Blind Man to cross the Pacific Ocean »
A few weeks ago at our marina Eric and I met a man from Japan “Yoshi” who owns a BCC (the bigger version of the Falmouth Cutter) that was new to our dock. Eric and I would stop to look at the boat and wondered who the owner was. It’s not often that you run into a boat designed by Lyle Hess in San Diego. We finally met Yoshi and he generously invited us to take a look at his boat. While we were there he told us about the boat’s history, how he came by it and another story as well„,
Yoshi was allowing his boat to be the practice boat for Mitsuhiro “Hiro” Iwamota a young blind sailor who is planning to sail across the Pacific ocean. This June 2013 Hiro will sail from Japan across the Pacific, arriving two months later to his home San Diego. To date, no visually impaired person in the condition of total blindness (NLP) has attempted such a challenges.
About a week after we met Yoshi and he told us this story there was news cameras and reporters all over our marina to interview Hiro. So cool to see this and watch as this story continues to unfold!
